Olds Check Engine Light Code P1374

wiring_Olds Olds check engine light question:

This Olds check engine light on my 1996 Olds Cutlass has a fault code P1374 which means 3X Reference signal circuit when I scanned it. It is a 1996 Cutlass and has a 3.1L engine on it. It has other engine trouble symptoms which I have detected like surging intermittently and cutting out especially at traffic stops. Reading ATS lessons, I found out that this problem refers to the crank sensor circuit but I am not sure how to proceed. Any idea how to fix this engine trouble code?

Olds check engine light ATS fix:

when you have a Olds check engine light with this code P1374, it mainly refers to the connection wirings between the crank and cam sensors, the ignition module and the ecm (computer) circuits. The most common culprit here is usually located at the harness at the right corner at the engine compartment. There is a purple white wire coming from your ignition module and sometimes, it would rub the power steering hose and have an open wiring connection. Make sure that this wire is not cut or open. To check, start by opening up the insulation so you can see the bare or open wires. If you find the wiring harness to be OK, check the integrity of other wires to the crank and cam sensors, ignition modules and ecm. The wires can be verified for tightness and presence of corrosion. If they are OK, then it is about time to trace every wiring diagram connections so you can check those components themselves.

To check the components, check for the voltage values of the ground, power supply and reference wires. A lot of times, any voltage readings out of the normal range is an indicator of component failure. Once detected, a suspected component can be compared to a new one for resistance readings before buying it. After replacing the part, make sure to to reset the code before going for a road test.
