No Starts on Nissan Frontier question:
This no starts on Nissan Frontier 2000 truck came after it quit working and when I sprayed with carb cleaner, the engine would start. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter and thought it was the fix. It only ran a few minutes and it quit again. When testing for ignition spark, it seems spark would quit after continuous cranking. Color of the spark is not blue but orange which was not consistent. I suspected the cam sensor (located inside distributor) is the culprit. I verified this when the code P0340 appeared after it was scanned. However, if you can show me how to verify this code, I will appreciate it very much.
No starts on Nissan Frontier ATS Fixes:
When fixing no starts on Nissan Frontier vehicles, most of this cam sensor fault code can be verified by removing the distributor cap. Once removed, you can check the inside of the distributor for presence of dust and oil which can contaminate the cam sensor sensing probe. This dirt will give you poor cam sensor signal causing the occurrence of the fault code. If you do, don’t mess around with this cam sensor and instead, replace the whole distributor assy. You would need some special tools to service the cam sensor and besides, you have to train how it is done. Once you have replaced the distributor, make sure to clear the fault code after you replace the part.
ATS Tips:
Here are other repair tips for no starts on Nissan Frontier vehicle with P0340 fault codes:
1.) make sure to check the engine computer ground wire voltages. It should not higher than 0.250 volt with key on engine off.
2.) do this check above before replacing the distributor cam sensor. You are better off using a wiring diagram of this vehicle so you can identify and locate all the ground wires.
3.) try blowing air after you remove the distributor cap, that should clear the dirt and remove the fault code for a while but replace the distributor later.
4.) If you have more questions about this fault code P0340, please contact ATS or post your comments below.
