KIA Sportage with code P0171 question:
This KIA Sportage with code P0171 problem above is causing the check engine light to come on in my dash panel. Resetting the fault code and replacing the suspected TPS sensor did not fix it. I even road tested the vehicle for about half an hour giving the same results. Later, I tested the vacuum leak using a carb cleaner sprayed on intake gaskets and hoses but no vacuum leaks were found. I am now contemplating of changing the mass sensor but I would like to ask a 2nd opinion before I do so. Thanks for your help!
KIA Sportage with code ATS Fixes:
To fix the KIA Sportage with code P0171, try servicing the mass sensor first before attempting to replace the sensor. During the servicing, try cleaning the mass sensor wire elements first and reset the engine computer code again. If the problem is not fixed, your next best option is to have the engine smoke “test” so you can find minute vacuum leak in the engine intake which is not visible to the naked eye. Small independent garages provide this “smoke test” at a minimal price if you phone around. Carb cleaner just don’t work anymore especially in an engine like this where it does not leave you any room to work. Once that you have established that the vacuum leak is not present in the engine, you can then go ahead and replace the mass sensor.
ATS quick KIA Sportage with code P0171 tip:
You can also test the presence of vacuum leak yourself if you follow this simple quick ATS instructions: find the opening of your engine throttle plate openings. While your engine is idling, block the opening with a piece of clean rug and the engine should quit. Otherwise, if the engine continue to run, you have an engine vacuum leak. You can also measure your vacuum readings while the engine is idling: a normal vacuum reading should be higher than 17 inch of Hg; anything lower than this indicates a vacuum leak.
