Shown in the video link below is a quick tip how to fix a Ford check engine light code. To start the fix, you can start by connecting the engine code scanner to the vehicle diagnostic link. For this vehicle, we have a 2002 Ford Ranger truck and the diagnostic link is located on the left side of the steering column below the instrument panel.
To get the actual error Ford check engine light codes, the code will be triggered as soon as you put the ignition key on or start the engine. If the check engine light code is flashing on the dash, the codes will be stored in the scanner while the engine is running. Once you confirmed this (and this will be shown in the scanner when you scroll on the control buttons of the scanner), your job is to identify the code so you can search the fix.
Most of the time, if you have a high end scanner, the fix will be displayed by the scanner itself. It can tell you the description and methods on how to fix it. Otherwise, you can use that code to ask your vehicle dealer or even search it in Google. Once you have the information, it is just a matter of following the repair instructions to fix the code or bring it to a garage so they can fix the problem for you.
To give you an idea, shown here is the video how this guy fix the Ford check engine light code after he got a code P1537:
Here is the meaning of the P1537 fault code:
P1537- IMR Control #1 stuck open
As per ATS database, most of this code fix refers to a fault in vacuum hose connections in the intake manifold housing connections. Normally, the vacuum hoses are connected to a solenoid or vacuum actuators. You can quickly check that by measuring your vacuum reading using a vacuum gage. You can also listen to the engine vacuum leak when you raise the hood and find any hissing sound. As a matter of fact, if you move the vacuum hose connections with your hand, you might find a leaking hose which when disturbed will make your engine run rough or idle erratically.
Finally, it you spray the vacuum hoses with a mist of water while the engine is idling, you can easily find the vacuum leak. In this video, the person found it after checking with the dealer. You can also fix a Ford check engine light code by contacting ATS online for the correct information.

Richard
