Engine code for Nissan vehicle question:
My Engine code for Nissan vehicle came when I have this P0400 EGR malfunction on my 1999 Nissan Maxima. After reading the ATS past newsletters, I have tested the egr valve circuits and checked the integrity of the vacuum hoses and egr passages. However, after resetting the fault code, it came back 1 week after driving this vehicle. How do I fix this trouble code? Is it possible that the engine ecm (engine computer) is alsodefective?
Engine code for Nissan vehicle fixes from ATS:
Looking at your Engine Code for Nissan vehicle and based on your egr test, the ecm should be good but it is possible that you have not really serviced the egr passages properly because this job is difficult. First of all, it requires the removal of the top engine plenum which needs a top engine overhaul. Under this plenum, it contains egr passages that is blocked and will result in an egr fault code. This can be verified by running your engine at idle and lifting the egr pintle shaft of the egr valve with your finger. When you do this, it should make your engine stall, if not, the passage itself is blocked.
To service this egr engine code for Nissan vehicle, you need a coat hanger to remove the egr carbon that has been built up over the years. Furthermore, if you soak the passages with a carb cleaner, it will hasten the removal of the carbon particles. Finally, blowing it with air will surely clean all hard sticking carbons which otherwise cannot be removed by conventional methods unless you removed the cylinder head. If you are an ATS member, we can give you the step by step procedure so you can do it properly.
ATS Tip:
While you do this, you can also test the egr valve which could be stuck closed. On some of this egr valves, the carbon build up can prevent the egr pintle from moving freely. While you are doing this egr valve inspection, you can also measure the egr temperature sensor voltage using the proper engine specs that can be supplied to you by ATS. Finally, a weak battery can also cause this fault code which are reported by a lot of garages as shown in ATS common fixes. Please contact ATS for more info.
