Get this 2005 Honda Accord  no start SOLUTION as reported by ATS customer because his engine computer won’t communicate with his scanner. He paid almost $300 for the scanner and claimed it worked when he first tested it 3 months ago. Also, he was able see the scanner display monitor “live data” readings like FTFT, STFT, timing, sensor readings..ect. But when the no start happened on this vehicle, all he saw was a blank display monitor and cannot get the scanner to work. Is the engine computer damaged?
Is the new scanner defective?  According to him, this problem happened so quick that he does not know where to start so he contacted ATS.

Diagnosis for 2005 Honda Accord No Start

These are the following advice given for this vehicle:

1.) Since the scanner was working before this problem, I would disregard our ATS basic checks like testing for sparks, fuel, compression but it would not hurt if you try it. I believe this is purely an engine computer problem because of the symptoms he gave. I would start by getting a complete 2005 Honda Accord ECM wiring diagram so he can do a computer pin point test. This involves, finding the engine computer terminals and checking for power and ground supplies. Don’t even think about checking other circuits because it will just make you confused.

2.) The above test will show you if ecm (engine computer module) is getting power or not. Example, if you check pin “IGP1″ and A2 pin terminals of the diagram, you should get 12 v when you turn the key on and engine off. If not, go see the main relay terminal pin X31 if it is supplying power. ECM ground terminal pins PG1, PG2 LG2 and LG1 should read not higher than 0.251 volt with key on engine off. Anything ground voltages higher indicate a shorted ecm.

3.) Next, again using your immobilizer wiring diagram, check the immobilizer circuit. This circuit controls if your vehicle engine starts or not. The immobilizer does it by shutting down your fuel supply if there is a danger that your vehicle is being stolen. To check, verify if the immobilizer module wire (white red color) located by the side the steering column is getting 12v power. If not verify fuse relay box pin wire X35 with the same white red color wire.

If you can do these simple tests, you can verify the integrity of both ecm and immobilizer circuit system. (This information was emailed to the customer along with the wiring diagrams).

Final Fix  for 2005 Honda Accord No Start

In this case, the ecm was found defective after reading the ground voltages. A new one for Honda dealer fixed the problem. Nothing wrong found on the scanner and it lit up as soon as a new ecm computer was installed.

Richard

MORE Tips for 2005 Honda Accord No Start

1.) Another practical fix for this no start problem is to plug the scanner to the vehicle and leave the display monitor blank as it is. At this stage, the scanner is on but engine computer is not responding. To make the scanner respond try these:

a.) Disconnect the immobilizer and bcm module one at a time. If the problem is within those 2 modules, then the scanner display monitor should light up. Remember, the last module disconnected that lit up the scanner is the culprit.

b.) With key on engine off and scanner showing blank, try wiggling the engine sensor wires that you find especially those close to heat and locations where wire insulation’s are coming off because of oil leak and other neglected areas. Once you disturbed the culprit wire, the scanner display monitor will lite up.

2.) ATS customer later admitted the problem started when he boosted the car after he left the dome lights on overnight. When boosting, the battery cable ends were not put correctly causing a spike which damage the ecm.

3.) This fix may not work in all conditions but can be used as a starting point when troubleshooting a 2005 Honda Accord No Start situation.

Richard
