Today’s Symptoms:

Yesterday, a 1998 Honda Accord Panel Lights were complained by an ATS customer. According to him, it started with the right indicator light not coming on and followed by the the wiper motor stopped working when the AC was turned on. Finally all the dash panel lights stopped working along with the head lights.

Diagnostics for 1998 Honda Accord Panel Lights:

Using the dash panel wiring diagram for this vehicle, check the power supply to terminal pins B11, A4, B9, B20 and B21. If there is no 12v at these terminals with key on engine off (KOEO), I would check the fuses and the continuity. Next, check pin terminal B16 which is a black wire and supposed to be the ground connection. This ground wire originates behind the center console terminal G302. As you probably know by this time, any ground reading higher than 0.250 volt means as a short in the circuit.

Wiring descriptions:

All wiring pin terminals are designated in letters and are color coded when shown in the diagram.

The signal lights get the ground from B16 but are supplied with 12 v power from pin terminals A14 and C8 respectively. The wiper motor of this vehicle is powered by the multiplex control unit (MCU) located behind the left of the dash on the left fuse box cover. The wiper speed is controlled by the intermittent wiper relay which signals are fed thru the MCU.

A lot of this 1998 Honda Accord Panel lights problems are fixed by replacing the MCU but make sure it’s power supply is present at pins terminal A22 and A24. Then if ground wire B22 is OK, go ahead and replace the MCU.

Quick tips on 1998 Honda Accord Panel Lights repair:

Double check all the light bulbs installed in the light sockets…for example, the bulb could be wrong for the application or the socket itself is corroded. This can trigger all kinds of problems in the dash panel if not corrected.

As of this writing, all these tests has been sent to the customer and I am awaiting for the final fix. This will be updated as soon as we get the fix from the customer.

Final fix for the 2001 BMW Blower yesterday was the replacement of the Final stage Unit. The fix was relayed by the customer yesterday afternoon.
