GM check engine light with code 44 Question:
On GM check engine light with code 44, this last few days, I am getting poor acceleration on this GM Safari with 4.3L engine. When I scanned the OBD1 codes, I got a fault code 44 which points to lean fuel mixture. I have performed a complete tune up consisting of spark plugs and wires including replacement of the fuel filter. I also changed the oxygen sensors (both upstream and downstream sensors) and all of these did not seem to help. This vehicle used to bog down once a week and now it is doing it every other day. What should I do? Note: I also tested the fuel pressure reading and it was 56 psi at idle.
GM check engine light with code 44 ATS Fix:
After you performed the GM check engine light with code 44 test, I noticed the give away for the fix of this problem is the fuel pressure readings. Any GM vortex engine like this vehicle, the fuel pressure reading is critical. It should not go down below 60 psi or the engine will have these symptoms. Your fuel pressure reading is low and you need to replace the spider injector located under your engine plenum on top of the cylinder heads. About 90% of the time, replacing the fuel injector spider assembly (see picture) will fix this problem. If not, you can check the magnet of your distributor shaft.
ATS can supply you the step by step procedure in replacing the centralized fuel spider injector if you are a ATS member. On this example; the GM check engine light with code 44 needs to overhaul the top engine components. This requires a step by step removal and installation guide from one of ATS mechanics so you can do it properly. Feel free to ask your overhauling “comments” as shown in the box below so you can have a feel on how ATS works. Thanks!
