Troubleshooting Car Audio Amplifier Secrets

Ignition coil When troubleshooting car audio amplifier, there are few things to remember: get hold of the car service manual on how to remove the audio amplifier. This is important because once it is out, everything will be easy to check. Your main problem is not to damage any dash components while doing the audio repair.

Once the amplifier is out, here are quick ways of troubleshooting car audio amplifier:

1.) Using the amplifier wiring diagram, determine if the amplifier is getting power and ground supplies. You can use a digital voltmeter and test light to do that.

2.) Once confirmed the power and ground voltage…how do you know which is is defective? amplifier or speakers? This is the smart thing you can do: Get hold of an old known speaker which works on 12 volts system or you can remove one of the speaker from the vehicle. If you supply it with direct 12v battery power, you will notice a vibration from the speaker. If OK, connect the speaker with a jumper wires direct to the back of the amplifier terminal pin. There will 2 wires going to the speaker and amplifier with positive and negative polarity. Once connected, you should hear a sound coming out if the amplifier is OK. If not, the amplifier is defective. Remember: do this test to all 4 speaker doors connection terminals at the amplifier so you can double check if the wirings going to the speakers are OK or not.
