Fixing Power Window Switch for Honda

Honda window switch The power window switch for Honda is a funny set up. The components are similar to GM power window system except the terminology. The door power window switch is called multiplex control unit. This multiplex unit or switch can operate all the power window motors from the driver side. Another device which is a computerized is connected with this witch called power control unit. The control unit has the relays and sensors to process the anti wrap power circuit which operates the automatic express window movement. Note also that this control unit activates the power window motor when the multiplex switch button is turned on.

Both power voltage supplies of the multiplex and control unit is fed by the fuse box. The body control module (BCM) of this vehicle has no bearing with the multiplex switch but only the control units for both driver and passenger doors. The difficult part is the set up which is really expensive: whenever the control unit is defective and has to be replaced, the BCM has to be programmed by the dealer.

All ground supplies for the power window multiplex or switch, the control unit including the power window motors are connected in one common wire. This ground wire is shared by other accessories like power seat, power sliding door and even the fuel tank. If those accessories fail at the same time, make sure to check this ground wire first.

1.) When ever the battery is disconnected, the driver window multiplex or switch has to be program manually. Following some sequence of window operation and turning the ignition key at a given time, the automatic express movement of the window is set up.

2.) Most problems of power window switch for Honda come mostly from the 2 modules or control units of each front doors. When in doubt, always scan for code or check them right away.

3.) If the driver power window is not working and both the multiplex switch and control unit are suspected, make sure to check the BCM also. It is found to be susceptible to water contamination and corrupt the computer signals to the window control units. Don’t forget to check the door jamb wires though by using the appropriate wiring diagram. The BCM can be reset by disconnecting the battery terminals and holding them together for half an hour. Make sure you record the radio or navigational codes before doing this.

4.) When testing power window motors, remember both wires going to it have negative polarity. As soon as you push the button in the power window switch, one of those wires will turn positive.
