TIP on how to buy a used diesel engine…do not forget it or it will cost you!
Hello Folks!
Glad to be back again after so many months of being too busy with my other jobs and responsibilities. Beginning today, I will start giving you some tips and tidbits so you can fix your vehicle on your own. Don’t be shy to give me a comment or question if you have any problem. For fairness sake, make it brief and don’t forget to include the type of vehicle, engine model and the year it was made.
Thanks a lot!
Richard
For todays TIP:
BUYING USED DIESEL ENGINES
If you need to buy a used diesel engine for your vehicle like your truck, please remember some of these info so you don’t get yourself in a whole lot of trouble.
Take a compression test!
Unlike gasoline engine, diesel engine has a higher compression and it should be tested too before you buy them. The average compression reading of a used diesel engine nis usually around 300-400 psi. If you have to do it yourself, the compression gage is mounted on the diesel glow plug hole. Otherwise, ask the salvage yard to show it to you…you don’t want to find out later after you installed the used diesel engine that it has a poor compression. This will cause you a lot of grief and labor. Buying a used diesel engine is one of the ways you can beat this recession but you have to know how test them before you buy it.
