P0301 Misfire code on 1999 Saturn with 4 cylinder engine

Question:
My 99 Saturn has a miss and when I scanned the code, it was P0301 misfire at cylinder #1. What is the quickest way to check it?
ATS Adviser:
When testing a misfire code, there are several ways to do it depending on the type of misfire that you have. If it is a vacuum leak, you can pour water on the number cylinder head gasket area (see picture). If you do this during idle, there should be a change of rpm if the leak is in the gasket area. If the misfire is caused by electrical problems, you can measure the resistance of the spark plug wires, distributor cap or even the spark plug itself using ST125 (worth $5) and recommended by ATS. However, if it is caused by a mechanical failure, you can do a compression test on all cylinders.
