Extreme Check Engine Light Codes

P0340 code with NO START for 2000 Nissan Frontier with 3.3L engine

Spark tester for 2000 Nissan Frontier

Question:

This truck quit working and when tested with carb cleaner spray, would start. Replaced fuel pump and fuel filter and thought it was the fix. Only ran a few minutes and quit again. When testing for spark, it seems spark would quit after continuous cranking. Color of the spark is not blue but orange which was not consistent. I suspect the cam sensor (located inside distributor) is the culprit. I verified this when the code appeared after it was scanned.

ATS Adviser:

Most of this cam sensor fault can be verified by removing the distributor cap. Once removed, you can check the inside of the distributor for presence of dust and oil which can contaminate the cam sensor and give you poor cam signal causing this code. If you do, don’t mess around with this sensor and instead, replace the whole distributor assy. make sure to clear the code after you replace the part. If you have more questions about this code, please contact ATS.
